Henry A. Pilsbry's Leather Case

Scope and Contents

This leather briefcase belonged to Henry Augustus Pilsbry while he worked at the Academy of Natural Sciences. The leather briefcase must be handled with care. It is fragile, torn, and folded in half. The leather has torn away from the stitching on the bottom sides of the case. The zipper is undone and a small tagged attached reads: Dr. Henry A. Pilsbry @ 2244 Franklin Avenue, Morton, Pennsylvania.

Scope and Contents Collection consists of a letter in Japanese in black brush work on accordion folded paper from Hirohito, His Highness the Prince Regent, dated December 21, 1926 thanking Pilsbry for a copy of the Manual of Conchology, published by the Academy. Scope and Contents Between 1934 and 1935, Academy members Henry A. Pilsbry, Curator of Mollusks (1862-1957) and Francis W. Pennell, Curator of Botany (1886-1952) led an expedition to Chihuahua and Durango, Mexico. Slide 178 contains a Map of Mexico with the route taken by Pilsbry and Pennell during the summers of 1934 and 1935.
